By way of introduction, my name is Wes Wickwar and I am the owner of Accelacare Physical Therapy in Garden City, Kansas. I am reaching out because we are interested in helping MTI students complete their fellowship hours. I completed my fellowship through the Manual Therapy Institute in 2006 and was fortunate enough to be able to do almost all of my hours under Pieter Kroon. Since then, our clinic has hosted multiple students seeking to complete their hours and in the process, we realized there was a need for a more program-based method to help students complete their hours.
Our program begins with the belief that going through the didactic portion of the MTI curriculum provides the information necessary to become an excellent orthopedic manual therapist. I’ve heard Pieter say that doing the fellowship hours is where you truly learn the advanced problem-solving skills and sharpen your manual skills–and I couldn’t agree more. From my own experience and from mentoring many student fellows, I can tell you the level of expertise that is achieved upon completing the fellowship hours is much higher than prior to starting the hours.
As a result, our program offers flexible scheduling for completion of your hours as well as access to two more fellows who work in our clinic. I also know how difficult it can be to complete the fellowship hours due to work and family constraints. Because of these factors, we are willing to pay for housing expenses and in some cases, provide financial assistance to offset some of the costs incurred.
In addition, you will be working along-side physical therapy students doing their clinical rotations. We’ve found the sharing of information and teaching opportunities greatly increase the overall value of the fellowship hours.
We currently have positions available for two student-fellows, starting in November till July. Treatment hours count towards your fellowship hours. Housing is paid and we offer negotiated hourly rates for the time you spend in the clinic. Please let us know if you are interested
If you have any interest in completing your fellowship hours with us or have specific questions about the program, please feel free to email or call so we can set up a time to talk.
I look forward to speaking soon.
Best,
